Secret Canyon & Horseshoe Bend

We're getting ready for our hummer ride out to Secret Canyon. It's supposed to be a beautiful slot canyon similar to antelope canyon but not as crowded.
Secret Canyon
Wow, what a treat! Secret Canyon is absolutely breathtaking! Our group consisted of Chris and me plus 6 others and our wonderful Navajo guide James.

Slot Canyon Hummer Adventures is the only tour company permitted to take groups to Secret Canyon so the most people at any one time is 10 plus a guide.

We drove to Page and were taken by open-air Hummer down the highway for 4 miles then we turned onto a dirt road and entered Navajo land, we followed this dirt road for about 6 miles then walked for about 1/2 mile. On the way James told us the names of the plants along the trail as well as their uses.
When we got to the slot canyon he gave us hints on how to get the best photos.
We were allowed to take our time and weren't required to stay with the group which enhanced the experience. Chris and I meandered through the canyon taking pictures and marveling at the beauty.
Secret Canyon was stumbled upon when a Navajo rancher was looking for stray cattle and came across this hidden slot canyon. Even when you're just a few steps away from the entrance, you'd never guess it was there.
After about 2 hours in the canyon we began the return trip. On the way back James took us straight up the side of about a 60 degree rock face, once at the top we turned around and went back down. That was super fun!
When we got back to Page we went to a little sandwich place we'd found on Yelp called "Rivers End CafĂ©" where we had walnut chicken salad sandwiches that were delicious.
After lunch we drove to Horseshoe Bend and hiked the 1/2 mile trail down to the river and a beautiful view of Horseshoe Bend. Many photos later we headed back to our room.

  1. Secret Canyon sounds really cool. Now I wonder if there are other canyons out there like it besides Antelope and Secret....

  2. Actually there is another slot canyon called Canyon X and it will also be exclusively permitted to Slot Canyon Hummer Adventures. It will be a bit more strenuous to get to.
